“For those of us raised on the notion of misty, chill Ireland, the news that it's increasingly the world center of smart, tight home design is welcome, if surprising, news,” McKibben told Passive House Plus, in a statement that indicated that demonstrating leadership on green innovation may have a more far-reaching impact on Ireland’s reputation. “More and more, we know where to look for the latest in the products an imperilled world requires."
McKibben was recently appointed by Senator Bernie Sanders to the Democratic Party’s platform, a 15-member committee set up to write the party’s platform for the forthcoming elections.
McKibben’s 1989 book The End of Nature is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change, and has appeared in 24 languages. He is a founder of 350.org, the first planet-wide, grassroots climate change movement, which has organized twenty thousand rallies around the world in every country save North Korea, spearheaded the resistance to the Keystone Pipeline, and launched the fast-growing fossil fuel divestment movement.
