Independent experts to make up Irish climate change committee Dori

The Irish Department of Environment has confirmed to Passive House Plus that its proposed independent committee on climate change will be an expert rather than stakeholder group.

Responding to questions from Passive House Plus, a department spokesperson said: “It is the Minister’s intention to establish an expert body rather than a stakeholder body and the membership is a key issue for consideration by government in the context of finalising the heads of the Climate Action and Low-Carbon Development Bill.”

The news is encouraging is at means that an independent panel of scientists and other experts, rater than vested interests, will advise the minister on climate change policy.

The spokesperson added that the legislation should be published before Easter 2014, and that no further details would be announced in advance of this.
