Jeff Colley

Jeff Colley is the editor of Passive House Plus. He won the Green Leader award at the 2010 Green Awards for his advocacy work on the inclusion of energy ratings in property advertising, and a proposal to finance energy upgrades via utility bills.

He established Construct Ireland (for a sustainable future), Ireland's pioneering sustainable building magazine, in 2003. The magazine evolved into Passive House Plus in late 2012, the world's first English language magazine focused on passive house, as well as other aspects of sustainable building.

He is also a founder of Éasca, (the Environmental and Sustainable Construction Association) , an organisation set up to develop and promote a membership of approved companies offering genuinely sustainable solutions.

He writes a regular column for the Sunday Times, and has authored, co-authored and contributed to articles on sustainable building for numerous newspapers including the Irish Times, The Sunday Business Post, the Irish Examiner & the Sunday Tribune.

Nervous Energy

Will Ireland miss existing house energy rating deadline?
Fears are growing amongst energy rating trainers that Ireland is running out of time to ensure building energy ratings are in place for existing homes at point of sale or rental from January. Jeff Colley spoke to SEI and to leading figures involved in energy rating training to find out more and shed some light on how homes will be assessed.

The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan TD today announced that the Greener Homes Scheme (GHS), having made over 22,000 grant commitments to householders towards the installation of new renewable energy heating systems, will move immediately to Phase III of the scheme.

Ryan welcomes ESB greening

Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has welcomed the approval by the Board of ESB of a Strategic Framework to 2020 which should see the electricity supplier halve its carbon dioside emissions.

The UK's Observer newspaper produced an in-depth climate change section in last Sunday's edition, including an excellent warts-and-all article on the proto-eco city of Freiburg, Germany.

EU close to climate deal

The Irish Times has reported that leaders of the EU member states are today close to agreeing a timetable for action on climate change.

On a day when world record oil prices were again surpassed (see here ), Microsoft has launched a new technology (see here ) which it says could cut over two million tonnes of CO2 every year - about the same emissions as the Poolbeg power station, or 392,000 mid-sized cars.
